Pennsylvania state trooper shot in Philadelphia

Three people are reportedly in custody after a Pennsylvania state trooper was shot Tuesday morning along I-676 in Philadelphia, 6ABC reports. The trooper was hit in the shoulder and is conscious, according to WTXF.

6 ABC reports that a vehicle was being chased by police when it crashed into the back of the bus on the eastbound Vine Street Expressway near 22nd Street at about 9:45 a.m. Upon word of the state trooper’s injuries, Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf released the following statement: “My thoughts and prayers are with the Pennsylvania State Police Trooper shot on Interstate 676 in the line of duty today”. He also said some good Samaritans were involved in the capture of the suspects.

Mayor Michael Nutter spoke to the trooper at Hahnemann University Hospital.

The video, shot by Erika Cabrera, shows one person being taken into custody at the scene of a vehicle collision and fire on the highway.

The incident has caused major road closures in the area, including a stretch of both east- and westbound lanes of I-676.
