Will 2 wins be enough for LSU coach?

And as of late in Saturday’s second quarter, LSU is down 24-7 to Ole Miss. That will serve the Rebels well if he can keep it up next week against State. The man has won a ton of ballgames at LSU (7-3, 4-3), but with stories circulating this week about the LSU administration’s and boosters’ dissatisfaction with Miles’ recent job performance, it’s hard to defend him when his team has turned in three consecutive flat outings.

“That’s our coach. We’ve got his back 100 percent”, senior outside linebacker Deion Jones said. “Everyone knows how important the Egg Bowl is”. They’re going to come in with a chip on their shoulder. “We thank the Ole Miss family for their concern and encouragement, and we appreciate everyone respecting the family’s privacy during this time”. One of the great joys I have is when we do get validated by what the scoreboard says, and we get to enjoy that for the next 365 days, or so.

LSU (7-3, 4-3, No. 15 CFP) rallied in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 24-17, but the Rebels responded with two quick touchdowns to put the game out of reach. They could claim the division title if they are able to win out and if Alabama were to lose its last game of the season at Auburn. A crowd of players went up for the header, but it was junior Paige Reckert who connected with the ball, sending it over the hands of Ole Miss keeper Marnie Merritt.

LSU star running back Leonard Fournette had a decent day, with 108 yards rushing on 25 carries, but his presence was mostly neutralized after the Tigers fell into an early hole and had to throw to try and score points quickly. Mississippi State QB Dak Prescott has completed 66.2 percent of his passes for 23 touchdowns and three interceptions and he has rushed for 478 yards and nine touchdowns.

“We don’t really pay attention to all that”, LaCouture said. Is it enough of a disappointment to make a coaching change seem incredibly realistic?

The Rebels’ offense also continues to be a strength. They also have 57 touchdowns this season, breaking the record of 55 scored in 2001. The Rebels lead the SEC in several major statistical categories, including scoring (40.7 points per game), total offense (526.6 yards per game) and passing offense (348.8 yards per game). If that trend holds true, I would have to think he’s safe for next year.
