The film picks up immediately after the events of Mockingjay Part 1 and follows Katniss and her team of soldiers as they head to the Capitol to take on President Snow face-to-face.

Speaking with EW, director Francis Lawrence shared his idea of a possible prequel, expressing his interest in seeing that world before it crumbled into a dystopian state.
There wasn’t anything that really stood out as exceptional in Mockingjay – Part 2, the performances were good, the CGI was good, and the story wasn’t bad, but nothing about it was excellent. The Hunger Games have performed well since it debuted back in 2012.
“Lawrence, the undisputed star of the franchise, received the bulk of the praise, with Leah Greenblatt of Entertainment Weekly saying she skillfully carries the movie, and NY Magazine critic David Edelstein saying, “‘Mockingjay – Part 2’ is all Lawrence, though a couple of others have their moments”.
Mockingjay – Part 2 is the fourth and final film in the Hunger Games film series and is the sequel to last years Mockingjay – Part 1. But while most assume this to be their last visit to the world of Panem, the film’s director says he may not be done after all.
Mockingjay 2 easily placed No. 1 both domestically and internationally, opening to $146 million overseas.

“Mockingjay – Part 2” bowed in 87 global markets and 32,500 screens, making it the widest day-and-date release of the year, and the most ambitious in the history of Lionsgate, the studio behind the series. The movie, which broke box office records over the summer, was Walker’s final film and ultimately became a kind of send-off to him. The leader behind the revolution, President Coin (Julianne Moore) still wants Katniss to unify the thirteen Districts as a symbol of hope, while the evil dictatorship of President Snow (Donald Sutherland), believes the best way to defeat the rebellion is against Katniss. The earnings while substantial for a new release are the lowest opening earnings in the franchise. It hit theaters on November 20. The first film and “Catching Fire” are still the best of the series, but fans of the films will like the finale, and fans of the books will like that the filmmakers stayed true to the original storyline.
