Why Meteorologists Wear the Same Dress

It came in seven colors and would become the unofficial uniform for female meteorologists across the country.

The Homeyee women’s stretch tunic is being seen on television sets all over the country, including here in Montgomery. That’s exactly why basically every meteorologist in the United States is wearing the same form-fitting dress on TV.

The deal for the dress on Amazon.com for $23 was apparently too good for many to pass up.

The trend was an accident – the women who bought the dress say they share fashion tips and ideas in a “secret” social media group, said WNCN’s Kristin Ketchell, who wore the dress on Sunday morning for the first time.

Meteorologists are limited in what they can wear on the air that will not clash with the green colored screen behind them onto which graphics and maps are projected.

Last year, ‘The Dress, ‘ was the hottest buy online – this year, a new dress has taken over that spot and is making its way into on-air weather reports nationwide. Myers adds that meteorologists don’t have their own stylists or money for pricey clothes – which is partly why the dress caught on when a colleague posted it on a Facebook group page for women in their line of work. “This dress had all of [the] qualities we look for, but the price was the major selling point”, says Tapases.
