Asthmatic Kitty to release 10th anniversary edition of Sufjan Stevens
10 years ago, indie-folkster Sufjan Stevens released “Illinois”: his critically-acclaimed, 22-track love letter to the Midwestern USA state.

According to Asthmatic Kitty’s website, the announcement comes on the 10-year anniversary of “Illinois’” vinyl release date. 10,000 copies of the album – which is being dubbed the Blue Marvel edition- are being prepared for the release. As Pitchfork speculates, this could be Marvel’s way of trolling its rivals at DC. “And while DC allowed Stevens” label, Asthmatic Kitty, to continue to sell the already-manufactured copies of the album, they instructed them not to use the Superman image in any future pressings. To celebrate, he’s reissuing the album with a new cover.
The Blue Marvel, for those not familiar, is a relatively new character to the Marvel universe, whose powers are similar to those of Superman, who originally appeared on the cover art for IL.

Original cover artist Divya Srinivasan drew the super hero for the new cover. Pressed in two colours, Antimatter Blue and Cape White, the reissues come with some pretty cheeky artwork. He flies above two of Chicago’s most famous buildings, the John Hancock Center and the Willis Tower (better known as the Sears Tower).
