Not to be outdone, Ariana Grande, who sang Focus, came with her own bag of stage tricks.

Numerous celebrities in attendance were surprised when “Marvin Gaye” singer Charlie Puth locked lips with featured artist Meghan Trainor after a performance of the song. Her nominations include song and collaboration of the year for “Bad Blood” with Kendrick Lamar, favorite female artist – pop/rock, favorite album – pop/rock for “1989” and favorite artist – adult contemporary. The former fly girl said, “Tonight is about the music”.

The dancer, for her part, handled the moment like a total pro and didn’t miss a single beat as she closed out the performance with Lopez.

That wasn’t the only duet of the night. And Macklemore & Ryan Lewis linked up onstage with soul singer Leon Bridges. This year marks the 20th anniversary of Morissette’s breakout album, Jagged Little Pill.

Nick Jonas proved there’s more to him than being a Jonas brother and did a memorable medley staring with a soulful solo piano rendition of “Chains” and did “Levels” with a flawless falsetto and an impressive drum solo. The Weeknd was surrounded by flames for his performance of “The Hills”.

Goebel won further praise this week for her work on a new music video for South Korean pop star CL’s song “Hello B****es”.

We’re not sure it it’s because the theatrical release of “Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens” is showing within a month’s time on December 18, but the “Star Wars” tribute by Pentatonix really awakened the force with its sheer awesomeness, made even better by a bonus introduction from Han Solo himself, Harrison Ford!

He called the Paris attacks a “horrific and senseless tragedy” and quoted excerpts from a Facebook note written by French journalist Antoine Leiris, whose wife was killed at concert venue.

The evening culminated with a very wet performance by Justin Bieber, who danced in a downpour while singing his hit song “Sorry”.

Ever since the AMAs announced that it would pay tribute to the victims of the Paris terror attacks with a special performance of Edith Piaf’s “Hymne a L’amour” by Celine Dion, it was clear that this was going to be a standout performance. Florida Georgia Line won the favorite duo or group award and the favorite album prize also went to the group for their work “Anything Goes”.
