The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2

Those were all very relevant questions after The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part II opened less successfully than expected on the weekend.

Only 34 movies in history have opened at over 100 million dollars, including all four in The Hunger Games series. Catching Fire was the highest-grossing of the Hunger Games films, earning $158 million after the first weekend of its 2013 debut.

Fatigue possibly started in during the release of Mockingjay, Part 1, which took in $121.9 million during its opening weekend, going on to take in $755 million worldwide.

Speaking of Spotlight, the newspaper thriller jumped into the top 10, moving four spaces from 12th to the 8th spot.

Despite the lack of any more source material, the studio is reportedly trying hard to continue the franchise and keep raking in all that box office money.

Lionsgate opted to split Suzanne Collins’ final book into two films, akin to the case of “Harry Potter” and “Twilight”.

Lead actress Jennifer Lawrence has gone on to appear in other high-profiled movies. This, unfortunately, is missing for a good portion of the film as it was with Part 1 because the characters are apart or aren’t working together due to Peeta being a threat because of the brainwashing. Excitement for it’s release is at an all time high as this film will be the last installment of the Hunger Games series. installment, “The Hunger Games- Mockinjay Part 2” has been directed by Francis Lawrence.

Meanwhile, the drama, which teamed Roberts and Chiwetel Ejiofor as well as Nicole Kidman, opened to approximately $6.6 million from 2,392 locations, marking the worst debut of Roberts’ career for a movie opening in 2,000 or more theaters.

“Who has ever had to defend an $100 million opening before?”

“It’s a great accomplishment”. The film has grossed a total of $154.15 million, domestically.

“We’re really pleased with it”, said Erik Lomis, the studio’s theatrical distribution president.

The latest James Bond adventure “Spectre“, a hold-over from last week, still had enough steam to finish second at the box office with $14.6 million. “It’s a pretty phenomenal result”.

With this weekend down 11 per cent from last year, it remains to be seen whether 2015 will indeed be a record-breaking US$11-billion year as many predicted at the outset.

Here in the United Kingdom, Cineworld, Guy Hands’ up-for-sale Odeon and the film’s distributor, Entertainment One, won’t be sobbing into their popcorn, particularly with Star Wars around the corner.
