Minneapolis Black Lives Matter shooting a “hate crime”: spokeswoman

Grimm said protesters had been threatened by one group online and had been working with hackers to figure out the group’s plans.

“There’s no audio, but it appears after the shot was sacked, one of the officers comes back into the camera view”.

He said his 19-year-old brother, Tevin, was wounded in the stomach and was in intensive care but was expected to recover. Authorites are now deciding whether to classify the incident as one, according to The Star Tribune.

The police said in a statement that the suspect, who was not identified, was arrested in the Minneapolis suburb of Bloomington. About half a block from the police station, the men opened fire, wounding at least five people. None of the five suffered life-threatening injuries.

The injured demonstrators were taken to nearby hospitals, though none of them were critically injured. Martin says he’s “feeling better than yesterday”. Wesley Martin was walking with a cane after being hit in the left leg. He said he remembers chasing the masked men, then getting shot and being put in an ambulance.

Authorities have said their initial investigation shows Clark was a suspect in an assault and was disrupting paramedics who were trying to help the victim.

Oluchi Omeoga witnessed the shooting and said a handful of protesters followed three men wearing masks to a street corner, where the men pulled out weapons and gunshots rang out.

“We appreciate Black Lives Matter for holding it down and keeping the protests peaceful”, Sutton said. A connection between the men in the videos and the suspects who have been arrested has not been confirmed.

Allegedly when they reached a darker area the men shot the protesters before fleeing the scene.

Police earlier arrested a 23-year-old white man in the shootings.

Protesters have demanded the release of videos that show parts of the shooting, but authorities say they will not release the video until the investigation is concluded.

“What happened last night was a planned hate crime”, the group said in a statement Tuesday.

The situation escalated Monday night when members of the protesters’ security team approached three men and one woman who were standing under a “Justice4Jamar” sign and asked what they were doing.

Officers are still seeking two other white male suspects. Clark’s family called for an end to the demonstrations out of safety concerns.

“We ain’t going nowhere…” he said. A 26-year-old white man and a 21-year-old white man turned themselves in at about 2:30 p.m., according to the Minneapolis Police Department.

A string of police-involved deaths sparked the Black Lives Matter movement a year ago, but 2015 has been especially tumultuous with a relentless tide of police shootings.

I wrote here about the shooting of Jamar Clark by Minneapolis police officers on November 15. Wesley Martin said that he was attempting to escort people away and confront the gunmen when he was shot in the leg, US News reported. The police are asking that anyone with information to please come forward.
