Aguero: City have experience for Champions League

City travel to last season’s runners-up, Juventus, on Wednesday night, where a win would secure top spot in Group D.

A win for City would create an unassailable four-point buffer between the Premier League club and the Bianconeri at the top of the Group D standings with one matchday remaining.

With Paulo Dybala hitting a second-half victor to clinch a 1-0 home win over AC Milan on Saturday, Juventus claimed a third consecutive win in Serie A for the first time this season.

“We had chances, they had chances, but they took theirs”.

“It’s important for the confidence of our supporters and it’s important for us to put in a strong performance”, he said.

City will again be without influential captain Vincent Kompany due to a calf injury and his fellow centre-back Eliaquim Mangala is also unavailable, due to an unspecified problem.

Things are looking a lot brighter in Europe though as City are already guaranteed a place in the knockout phase of the Champions League. “We are two teams that could take it easy but we will play hard to get first place”.

“Manchester City suffered a heavy defeat in the league so we’ll have to be wary of any potential backlash”, the Italy worldwide told a press conference.

“The Champions League is the most important competition in the world, isn’t it”, said Aguero. “We are realistic enough to know a draw would be a good result for us too but we are going to turn up with every intention of winning the game”, the goalkeeper says.

“We meet City on home turf, they have a team of champions, but historically they have struggled in this tournament”, he said.

That came after a 3-2 defeat at Sevilla and has left Madrid six points adrift of leaders Barca in La Liga.

Wednesday’s soccer TV has the rest of the Champions League schedule. Aguero did though score City’s only goal and was industrious and involved in most of the good that City did but will need a few games to get back to being able for 90 minutes.

Manchester City may be playing in the shadow of the Alps but it is the shadow of Barcelona that has dominated their thoughts as they prepare to face Juventus tonight.

“But at this moment we’re qualified for the next stage and tomorrow they need to at least not lose to qualify”.

Beating Juventus on their own park would see Manchester City walking tall in the Champions League in future.

A draw will also suffice, as long as Sevilla do not win their game in Germany, and the current form guide suggests Juve are the favourites.
