Ryan Fitzpatrick: Bowles: Fitzpatrick will start against Fins

But they looked completely unprepared for the possibility the Texans – employing a third quarterback and a running back by committee – might try something funky as Grimes and Shorts combined for 48 yards on seven Wildcat carries.

Todd Bowles said NY Jets quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick will start next Sunday’s home game against the Miami Dolphins after the coach failed to fully commit to Fitzpatrick immediately following a 24-17 loss to the Houston Texans the previous day.

Asked how much discussion there was on the matter, Bowles said Monday, “Not much”.

“You don’t want to give up on a quarterback just like that because overall, on what he’s done this year, he still proved he can do that going forward”, Bowles said. “But we’re fine with Ryan”.

The NY Jets are either exceeding or falling short of expectations depending on where you stood before the season got underway.

The Jets defense – Bowles’ specialty – was no better prepared. He slammed the door shut, though, on Monday afternoon.

The loss was the Jets (5-5) fourth in five games and another against an AFC playoff contender. “Unfortunately and fortunately, I’ve had a lot of experience in playing for teams that have been in this situation where we’ve lost a few games, and we’ve got to stay the course, we’ve got to right the ship, we’ve got to do all that stuff”.

“I think, at this point in my career, I’ve learned a ton, in all the situations I’ve been in”, said Fitzpatrick, in his 11th National Football League season and on his sixth team.

“I have no problem shouldering any blame that gets thrown my way and all the blame that I deserve and don’t deserve”.

Fitzpatrick insisted that he’s “the right man for the job” to help get the Jets moving back in the right direction. With this record, it may be that Ryan Fitzpatrick is actually now the answer for the Jets. Bowles responded by saying Fitzpatrick is “our starting quarterback”, but presumably more of the same from Fitzpatrick would lead the team to consider giving Geno Smith or Bryce Petty a look.

Fitzpatrick loses his helmet diving into the end zone on Sunday – a touchdown that left him shaken.

Coach Todd Bowles wasn’t happy with Fitzpatrick’s performance on Sunday, but said his job wasn’t in jeopardy. “I just don’t think he played very well”. “I don’t think he was any worse for wear from last week”.

Bowles says Fitzpatrick missed some throws in the game, but adds that the entire team has lots to correct. He was examined for a concussion and cleared.

“He just kinda undercut the route”, Fitzpatrick said.

Fantasy Impact: This defense has really stepped it’s game up over the last three weeks.

“They had their plan of what they wanted to do and I didn’t happen to be in those plans”, Fitzpatrick said Wednesday.

Fitzpatrick also was fine after taking a hard shot in which his helmet was knocked off during a late touchdown run against the Texans.
