Terrorists attack army camp in Jammu and Kashmir

Meanwhile, the Army has been engaged in a search operation to flush out hiding terrorists from the Rajwar forests in Handwara and so far three security personnel have been injured, including a Lieutenant-Colonel and two jawans. However, there is no confirmation of any casualties from the officials.

The officer says an army soldier has been injured in the fighting, which started early Wednesday close to the heavily militarized line of control dividing Kashmir between India and Pakistan.

The official said the terrorists seem to be heavily armed as they used small fire arms and UBGLs to carry out the attack.

According to reports, an oil depot in the Army camp has caught fire amid the gunbattle.

Indian news channels reported that fighting was continuing, and the army had launched a counter-offensive to combat the gunmen.

Large number of arms and ammunition were recovered in Tuesday night’s operation, said a police official.

A 38-year-old army colonel Santosh Mahadik and two soldiers sustained serious injuries in an encounter with terrorists in Kupwara district last week of which Tangdhar sector is a part.

Source said four militants had infiltrated from Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) reportedly on October 31st into this side.
