Henderson: I’m closing in on return

And Reds legend Mark Lawrenson believes the 25-year-old’s return will be a massive boost for Jurgen Klopp. Should they pass that test, they may find themselves on the verge of going one step further than the side that fell away so agonisingly 18 months ago.

“I’m getting there”, he told Sky Sports.

Henderson’s planned return date has only ever been given as “in November” and if he comes back this week, he will be returning to a Liverpool squad in good spirits following their 4-1 Premier League win at Manchester City on Saturday night.

That may sound harsh, but retaining fitness is a skill, just like any other, and if Sturridge – hailed by Lucas for his “amazing” ability’ – can’t stay fit for more than a few games a time, then the team has to to come first.

Jordan Rossiter has returned to full training, although Danny Ings and Joe Gomez remain out for a while with ACL injuries.

Henderson is yet to play under Klopp, but the Reds captain hailed the new boss as “fantastic” after the 4-1 win over Manchester City.

“It shows how well we can play, and we just need the consistency to keep playing with the freedom we did on Saturday”.

However, the former Borussia Dortmund manager has instilled the kind of confidence that nearly took the Merseyside outfit to the Premier League title in 2013/14. “Hopefully we can keep learning from him and improving”.

“We know about his effort, application and willingness to run, and that will surely make him flawless for Klopp”.

When asked about Klopp’s plans in the transfer market, he added: “I think he is looking at it [buying a replacement for Mignolet]”.

This Jurgen Klopp stat will not make pleasant reading for Brendan Rodgers
