Arsenal 3-0 Dinamo Zagreb

The visiting stopper twice denied Ozil as Arsenal finished the half in fluent fashion but it was not until the 69th minute that Alexis killed the contest with the third goal.

Those results mean that Bayern are through to the knockout round and Arsenal will join them if they beat Olympiakos by two clear goals in Greece on December 9.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger LONDON: Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has accused European football’s governing body UEFA of accepting doping because they allowed his team’s defeat by Dinamo Zagreb to stand despite one of the Croatian club’s players failing a drugs test. “It has been hard for us due to our results and our performances but there is still a chance for us and we want to take it seriously”.

“He is just such an important player because at the moment all we have as strikers are Olivier Giroud and Sanchez, and Giroud had a little problem with his ankle over the weekend so I chose to give him a breather”. How big the chance is?

“So we are going into a play-off situation and we know what we need to get so hopefully we will be ready for that”.

Barca were ruthless in a 6-1 demolition of Roma while Bayern Munich beat Olympiakos 4-0 and the pair are fighting it out for favouritism at the top of the market. If Olympiakos win, draw or lose to Arsenal, but concede fewer than three goals, they will go through instead.

Sanchez went from provider to goalscorer just minutes later, as the home side made the most of their possession and continued to threaten to add to their tally as they slowly took control of proceedings.

Arsène Wenger’s men had to exercise patience against their deep-lying opponents earlier in the game but a superb goal from Mesut Ozil broke the deadlock for the Gunners. They managed to win one of two back-to-back game with Bayern Munich to give themselves an outside shot of qualification.

“We have come out with a chance – let’s make right what we didn’t do right until now”, said Wenger.

“They played much better than in the first match against us”.

Arsenal have been hit with a major injury blow ahead of the game with Francis Coquelin ruled out for at least two months with a knee injury that he picked up on Saturday. “In between [the match in September and now] he has been punished”, Wenger said.
