Booth Theatre audience member Chris York shared the strange story on his Facebook page last week and it quickly drew attention.

If it was a dare, the cast and crew weren’t in on it. The play was delayed five minutes and cast members Sarah Stiles and Mark Kudisch tweeted their astonishment.
A patron at the Tony Award-nominated play “Hand to God” on July 2 climbed onstage just before the show began to try to recharge his phone in what looked like an outlet. To the man’s dismay, the outlet on the set was fake, as stated by CNN.
A Broadway theatre set appears to have been so realistic that a New York theatregoer attempted to plug his mobile phone into a fake powerpoint on the stage. “SET.” York went on to say he was among a number of audience members who lashed out at the culprit.

The shamed theatergoer then had to return to the stage to take his device back as the crowd heckled him, and the production started later than usual. “Moron. Has theatre etiquette – check, Common Sense – [really] fallen that far??”
