More travelers, security expected this Thanksgiving
With prices so low for so long, it would be a good time to raise the federal gas tax slightly to help fund the fix of deteriorating roads and bridges.

While Morgan County gas prices will probably continue to lag behind the big cities, they likely won’t climb above $2, on average, until well into the new year.
“Motorists are saving around $11 for a full tank of gas compared to this time previous year”, said Mark Jenkins, spokesman, AAA – The Auto Club Group, in a statement. “So as you’re going through TSA you have a lot more travelers that maybe only hop on a flight once or twice a year, so there’s a bit more inexperience in that travel line”.
Demand for gasoline typically declines during the month of November, and barring any unexpected disruptions in supply, the national average is expected to move even lower leading into 2016.
AAA spokesperson Chelsea Pompeani says almost 47-million people will drive to their destinations for Thanksgiving.
The lowest Green Bay gas price since GasBuddy started keeping records in 2008 was $1.65 per gallon, on December 13, 2008. Those prices are expected to become a few cents cheaper by Thanksgiving. If the map is not local, type your ZIP code or town and state in the search box and press return.
“Normally we’re going to see 6,000 to 7,000 people travel through the airport each day”, said Briggs. “People make their travel plans, fairly, well in advance of a holiday”, Weinholzer said.
The heaviest traffic is expected the day before and days after the Thanksgiving holiday.
The State Department has put out a worldwide travel alert and warns travelers to “exercise particular caution during the holiday season”. That’s up six percent from past year, they said.
Also to note, with Thursday’s weather forecast in Iowa, Nebraska, and South Dakota not looking as as great as it can, AAA reminds drivers to think well in advance. Vermillion and Brookings are both hovering right around $2.00 per gallon.

“Sure, I’m concerned, but I’m not afraid to fly”, said Cecily Stack, who was flying to visit her son.
