Colorado’s average gas price drops below $2 per gallon

The price of gasoline is expected to sink below an average of $2 per gallon nationwide this week for the first time since 2009 – just in time for the busy Thanksgiving driving period. Will Speer, senior petroleum analyst with GasBuddy, puts the good news into perspective.

While the majority of gas prices in Las Vegas on Tuesday were not necessarily reflective of the reported average in the area, drivers still benefited from a week-to-week drop.

Tucson kept the state’s lowest average fuel price, at $1.91 per gallon, down about a nickel in a week and 72 cents lower than last Thanksgiving week.

The Dearborn-based auto club says the average price for self-serve regular unleaded gasoline was about $1.94 per gallon on Sunday. “Texas, and especially Houston, has great resources in the refining community”, he points out.

Among Washington’s major metro areas, Richland had the lowest average price at $2.28 a gallon while Seattle was the highest at $2.55 a gallon.

Low crude prices have resulted in layoffs and work slowdowns throughout the oil-and-gas industry and have been blamed, in large part, for a rise in Houma-Thibodaux’s jobless rate.
