Maryland is getting used to playing from behind in the second half. “It was loud, hard to communicate with the players, but we got it done”. He did it again several minutes later, finding Dodd (13 points) on a pick and roll that gave Maryland a 48-43 lead. Rhode Island’s Jared Terrell registered his first double-double, with 12 points and a career-best 10 rebounds against TCU.3. I know next season, the two teams will play at Georgetown’s home at the Verizon Center, and after that, we will see how things play out. “Maybe the pace of the game had something to do with it, because that was a tremendous pace”.

CK: Yes, it really is too early to say who will emerge as their rival, but I do have a couple of ideas on the matter. Walt believes the game was more of a testament to Rider being a good team, “you have to lean towards they are good”. We have to rise to the occasion and compete with them. The Redbirds did score 11 of the first 17 points of the half. Point guard Melo Trimble added 15 points and seven assists, while forward Damonte Dodd contributed 13 points.

The Terrapins go 7-foot-1, 6-9 and 6-9 across their front line and brought their heralded freshman, 6-11 Diamond Stone, off the bench against Rider.

Turgeon complimented Lee’s effort and then highlighted his own guard play, with Trimble and Sulaimon providing calm and composure when the team was in trouble. “As they grow together defensively and share the basketball… they’re the reason we are winning these close games”. Maryland cruised to victory from there after a late run that put the Redbirds away for good. McCloud missed the free throw and then his 3-point shot the next time down the floor rattled out, which gave Maryland a chance to recover….

After Sulaimon knocked down the three-pointer to make it 68-62, effectively ending IL State’s upset bid, he held his arm up for a second before running back down the court to greet Trimble. The Terrapins blocked nine shots. After surviving another battle on Tuesday, the Terps will face Rhode Island on Wednesday for the Cancun Challenge championship at Riviera Maya, Mexico.

Illinois State reached the title game of the Cancun Challenge in its first appearance in 2011 before falling to state rival Illinois.ABOUT MARYLAND (3 0): Perhaps it was a letdown after a gritty win over Georgetown but the Terps were flat in the outing against Rider before posting a 65-58 victory.
