Warmer Wednesday with Thanksgiving rain chances

There will be a chance of showers and thunderstorms ahead of the cold front from Texas to the Great Lakes on Thanksgiving Day. Dry weather will hang around for Wednesday so no rain or snow to worry about in the Mitten as you hit the roads.

Later in the week, a cold front will be followed Friday by snow and ice in western Kansas, western Oklahoma, and the Texas Panhandle, Weather.com reported. The National Weather Service said the snow would continue in IL and in on Saturday and move into MI.

Wednesday night, skies will be cloudy with a low of 51. The rain sticks around through the afternoon before beginning to taper off Friday evening.

In the basin, however, “turkey day and Friday should be mostly clear across the region”, according to the service. We’re not talking about a huge ice storm, but travel might get a bit tricky for the bargain grabbers/holidays shoppers into the wee morning hours of Black Friday. Ast winds are expected to become strong through the Columbia Gorge, with gusty winds possibly affecting the Portland area by Thanksgiving Day and continuing through the holiday weekend.

In an update Tuesday morning, the NWS said the storm would impact Thanksgiving travel Wednesday, the most traveled of the year.
