Dynamo Kiev to play behind closed doors following racist attacks on Chelsea

Uefa have ordered Dynamo Kyiv to play up to three matches behind closed doors, after being previously charged for racist behaviour, crowd disurbances and blocked stairways following the 0-0 Champions League draw with Chelsea in October.

A third closed-door match sanction is suspended for three probationary years, UEFA said on Wednesday.

Piara Powar, executive director of Fare, told the Guardian last month: “This awful incident reflects numerous continuing realities of football in central and eastern Europe”.

Kiev have also been fined €100,000.

Defender Miguel Layun has admitted Porto will have to show courage in their do-or-die Champions League clash with Chelsea after going down to Dynamo Kiev on Tuesday.

Porto made the brighter start, with Danilo’s sixth-minute header well held by Dynamo goalkeeper Olexandr Shovkovskiy and Yacine Brahimi rifling a 20-yard shot over the crossbar.

The ruling means that no fans will be present when Kiev entertain Maccabi Tel-Aviv in their final Group D match on December 9.

The Portuguese side needed only to avoid defeat against Dynamo to qualify for the knock-out stages, but Yarmolenko’s first-half penalty and Gonzalez’s clinical second-half effort forced them to put any celebrations on hold.

That led to European football’s governing body ruling they must play their next game in European competition in an empty stadium.
