Injured Celtic captain Scott Brown out for 12 weeks

Celtic captain Scott Brown has been ruled out of action for eight to 12 weeks with a knee injury.

It gives Hoops boss Ronny Deila another headache ahead of their Europa League Group A clash with Ajax at Parkhead tomorrow night.

He has already missed games this term due to knee problems and Deila will be hoping that his captain soon returns to the field to rally his troops for the second half of the campaign.

The Norwegian said: “It is nothing to do with the previous one”.

The midfielder came back for Saturday’s match against Kilmarnock after missing four games with a knee injury but was hurt again towards the end of the game. “He twisted it and got an injury on the outside ligament”.

“We don’t know for sure yet”, said Deila.

Regulars Stefan Johansen and Nir Bitton are suspended, forcing Deila into a major reshuffle in the middle of the park.

But while hopes remain relatively high that Brown will be cleared to anchor Celtic’s midfield against the Dutch big guns, the chances of Commons being given the thumbs up are not believed to be as high, the Daily Record reports.

Delia added: “We are not sure yet but hopefully that is not necessary”.

“We haven’t talked about tactics just yet but whatever decision the manager makes I’m happy to play either an attacking or defensive role. We have to win the game but it’s the same for Ajax so this is a big opportunity for us”.
