SEC Player of the Week: Mississippi State QB Dak Prescott

The Tigers, SEC East champions the last two seasons, have plenty of emotions on their behalf on their last chance for 6-win bowl eligibility which Arkansas has already attained and that this either will be the last SEC game or the last game period for their coach, Gary Pinkel, retiring for health reasons after 15 years coaching Mizzou. Certainly, those 3 points would have made the contest a different game.

Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen has coached the likes of Tim Tebow at Florida and Alex Smith at Utah.

Arkansas scored one more time before the half, after another impressive drive by BA.

In the Bulldogs’ next possession, Prescott threw a pass that was tipped and intercepted by defensive back Kevin Richardson II. Donald Gray finished with 59 receiving yards on two catches.

Allen matched the Mississippi State senior. If you want a 1st down in that situation, you probably throw with a white-hot quarterback since the running game amassed fewer than 100 yards for the first time this year. That also marked the second time he had broken the Arkansas record for touchdown passes in a game – which once stood at five – in three weeks.

Prescott used both his arm and his legs en route to a big victory for the Bulldogs. Arkansas woke back up with a go-ahead score when Allen found tight end Jeremy Sprinkle with a 10-yard touchdown pass with 5:33 play (and the Hogs pulled off a wild, reverse pass by Jared Cornelius to Allen for two points), but Prescott only needed six plays to cover 82 yards to regain the lead for MSU, throwing 14 yards to Fred Scott with 3:05 to go. In the previous five games, Mississippi State has a record of 4-1 SU and 3-2 ATS.

He is a much more polished passer on deep routes, which makes him almost impossible to stop when added to his timing on short and intermediate routes, as well as his work on the ground.

After a play fails, the easiest thing in the world is to suggest that something else would have worked better.

Prescott became the fourth player in FBS history to pass for 60 touchdowns and rush for 40 touchdowns in a career. They are now riding a four-game winning streak in which they have dominated their opposition with an offense averaging 523.3 yards and 50.2 points per game during that span.

Dak Prescott was only sacked twice by Arkansas which was quite and improvement from the nine the Bulldogs surrendered to Alabama the week prior.

The coaches’ confidence in Hedlund for a long field goal obviously wasn’t great. “He really does a lot for his team”, Allen said. From there the Hogs ran up the middle to center the ball for the field-goal attempt. “Hats off to him and the way he played”.

OHIO STATE (-14) over MI State – While he may have trouble driving his vehicle, J.T. Barrett has no problem running the Buckeyes offense. The lack of depth in the Razorback secondary and linebacker positions was evident, as players looked exhausted and completely outmatched by Bulldog receivers.

Yet the Hogs must hastily hold themselves up with SEC rival Missouri closing Arkansas’ regular season at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Reynolds Razorback Stadium.
