Police reports indicated Bell was lying in the street before he was pronounced dead at the scene. Responders brought him to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he was in stable condition.
Police believe the men involved in the killing were driving a Chrystler PT Cruiser that was suspected to have been stolen. Pickard says Bell and another person were shot while getting off a bus before two suspects robbed them. Police are still searching for the shooter.
Lt. Charles Hampton said at a media briefing Wednesday that Bell and the other victim, who did not know each other, were accosted by a group of men in a PT Cruiser shortly after midnight.
– Police in Atlanta hope the release of surveillance video will help detectives catch the young men who fatally shot former championship boxer O’Neil Bell on November 25th.
Bell, who born in Jamaica, moved to DE at the age of five with his parents.
He first fought under the name “Give “Em Hell” Bell before changing his moniker to ‘Supernova”. He took the IBF cruiserweight title in 2005 and unified the belts by knocking out WBA and WBC champion Jean-Marc Mormeck at Madison Square Garden in January 2006.
