NJ.com reports that the man’s body was found on Tuesday morning.
The body of a 27-year-old township resident was pulled Tuesday morning from White Meadow Lake, about 54 hours after he disappeared in the water while canoeing with another man, who was rescued by a police officer.
A recovery operation then began, lasting some 12 hours Sunday and another 10 hours Monday.
Around 3 a.m. Sunday, authorities received numerous 911 calls about a capsized canoe with two people inside, according to a news release from the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office.
Knapp and Chief Martin McParland of the Rockaway Township Police Department have issued an update of the investigation into the death of the canoeist found in White Meadow Lake in Rockaway Township. The Morris County Prosecutor’s Office and Rockaway Township Police Department had been coordinating the recovery effort, which was assisted by members of the Rockaway Township Fire Department.
Crews have resumed searching for a man who went missing after his canoe capsized in a northern New Jersey lake.
Dr. Ronald V. Suarez, MD of the Morris County Medical Examiner’s Office, pronounced the man dead at the scene.
