Cooney says their traditional Thanksgiving feast reached as many as several hundred hungry mouths this year.

The volunteers will cook 100 turkeys, 60 gallons of gravy, 300 pounds of mashed potatoes, 300 pounds of stuffing, 225 pumpkin pies, 1200 dinner rolls and prepare 40 pounds of coffee. There is still time for people in the community to do drives to collect food for the food boxes.

Aside from Wednesday’s big event, BARM is serving daily meals at its headquarters at 2114 Macdonald Ave. throughout the week. The organization will provide transportation for those staying at Ogden Rescue Mission, the Lantern House, the Weber County Library and some residents staying in low-income housing.

“We thank God Almighty for all the good he has bestowed on us, and we like to share everything with those in need”, the Rev. Theodore Kyritsis said Tuesday. “Last year, they got here really early and worked all day without sitting down”.

The meal is made possible by donated food items from area individuals and groups, cash donations and the help of more than 250 volunteers. Throughout the year, the needy can receive emergency shelter, warm meals, hot showers, and fresh clothes.

“It’s always a special day for folks who call the streets their home”, said Penny Kievet, executive director of City Rescue Mission.

Every year the mission feeds about 500-1,000 homeless families and they deliver donations to about 500 families who are not homeless.
