Actor Ryan Gosling, best known for The Notebook, Drive and insane Stupid Love is reportedly in talks with director Damien Chazelle, known for Whiplash for Neil Armstrong biopic, titled First Man. Gosling and Chazelle are already working together on La La Land, a musical film in which Gosling stars as a jazz pianist, and now Deadline reports that the director wants him for the Armstrong biopic too.

Neil Armstrong was a aerospace engineer, naval aviator, test pilot who became NASA’s first civilian astronaut. Then, on his second and last trip into space he became the first man to walk on the moon. The film, First Man, is penned by Josh Singer, who hails from this year’s Oscar-buzzing work, Spotlight.

The 50 anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission is approaching, so perhaps Universal is working hard toward getting First Man ready for that…we’ll have to wait and see. The film has bounced around in development for a while now, and it previously had Clint Eastwood attached to direct, back when it was still set up at Warner Bros. The Universal incarnation has Temple Hill partners Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen producing.
