The hunt for Steve Spurrier’s successor is in full swing at SC and Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart has emerged as the front-runner for the head coaching vacancy, according to Fox Sports.
Now, another report has surfaced from Yahoo!’s Pat Forde indicating Herman has completely withdrawn his name from consideration at SC.
Smart has been on head coach Nick Saban’s staff at Alabama from the beginning of his tenure with the Crimson Tide.
University of Houston coach Tom Herman addressed the team Sunday about rumors linking him to other jobs and told them “nothing you see on the Internet is true”. Herman, 40, directed Ohio State’s offense in its national championship run last season. Smart, a former Georgiadefensive back, also would be considered one of the top candidates at his alma mater – if the Bulldogs decide to part ways with longtime coach Mark Richt. And it looks like that future will continue at Houston for Herman, well for at least one more year or until the Texas Longhorns job opens that is.

Coach Spurrier resigned from the Gamecocks in October.
