Klopp: Skrtel a doubt for Liverpool vs Bordeaux with illness

Jurgen Klopp has insisted Liverpool’s underwhelming home form in recent weeks is a mere coincidence rather than a structural problem.

Klopp played as a defender in his native Germany while Sagnol was also in the country, starring for powerhouses Bayern Munich; the Liverpool boss was at Mainz.

Liverpool have lost just once since Klopp took charge, a 2-1 home defeat to Crystal Palace on 8 November 8, and now sit ninth on the Premier League ladder.

Klopp’s priority, however, is the development of his team following the 4-1 win at the Etihad Stadium.

“That shows how well we can play and we just need the consistency and to keep playing with the freedom that we did on Saturday”.

“I think he is looking at [buying a replacement for Mignolet]”, Grobelaar, who won 19 major honours in 15 seasons with Liverpool, told Talksport. From the first day he arrived, it’s something that we’ve worked really hard on.

“We’re trying to get better and better”. I know him better as a player than as a manager, because we never met each other on the sideline. We have to learn how to handle this.

Christian Benteke trained on Wednesday and could be in line to feature for Liverpool in their Europa League clash against Girondins de Bordeaux on Thursday.

Klopp said: “We are in a good position at this moment but in football you solve one problem and the next second you have another one”. And it will help us because we have another option.

“We have to try to find the right situation to bring him in”.

“Benteke in good shape, when he came here he was injured, now many sessions with the team”.

However, due to illness, Skrtel may be unavailable for the match against the Ligue 1 outfit at Anfield on Thursday night.

“But my decision you will see tomorrow, but yes it’s closer”.

“Stevie is a legend at this club and if he’s here in Liverpool and he’s young and healthy enough to want to train that is absolutely no problem”.
