This marks Davis’ 10th year as a semifinalist, Atwater’s fifth, Lynch’s fourth and Mecklenburg’s fifth. Thomas and Seau are in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Law spent a decade with the Patriots from 1995-2004, winning three Super Bowls, playing in four, and earning two All Pro distinctions and four Pro Bowl nods.
The list will be reduced to 15 modern-era finalists on January 5, and the Class of 2016 will be selected on January 31, 2016.
He was an eight-time Pro Bowler and three-time first-team All-Pro.
One year after his retirement, Mills became the first (and still the only) player inducted into the Carolina Panthers Hall of Honor – the same year he joined the coaching staff. Early in his sixth season on the sideline, in 2003, he was diagnosed with cancer.
Dungy served as the Buccaneers’ head coach from 1996 to 2001, guiding the team to four playoff appearances in 1997, 1999, 2000 and 2001.
For the second straight year former Tennessee Titans center Kevin Mawae is among 25 semifinalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The 2016 Senior Finalists are Ken Stabler (QB – 1970-79 Oakland Raiders, 1980-81 Houston Oilers, 1982-84 New Orleans Saints) and Dick Stanfel (G – 1952-55 Detroit Lions, 1956-58 Washington Redskins).
Favre looks like a lock to make the Hall of Fame, which allows a maximum of five modern-era entrants each year. He could wind up in the Hall of Fame, his current position coach, Steve Marshall, has said. Other names for consideration include legendary coaches Don Coryell and Jimmy Johnson, as well as Greatest Show on Turf quarterback Kurt Warner and tackle Orlando Pace. The total class can reach eight inductees if both senior finalists and the contributor finalist are voted in.
