“We proceed from the fact that all sanctions against Iran should be lifted”, he said, stressing that this should happen “as soon as possible“.

“We are calling for the comprehensive lifting of them as soon as possible”, he said.

Iran and six world powers were close to an historic nuclear agreement on Thursday that could resolve a more than 12-year dispute over Tehran’s nuclear ambitions, but they remained deadlocked on the issue of Iranian arms and missile trade.

After a framework agreement on Iran’s nuclear program was reached this spring, Putin lifted Russia’s suspension on sending the S-300s, but no deliveries have been reported.

The United States and its European allies are determined to keep the arms and missile sanctions in place in the event of a nuclear deal with Iran.

“We’re making progress”, he said, adding, however, that, “It seems we are staying here for the weekend”. “Iran is committed to fighting IS… and lifting the arms embargo will help it improve its ability to fight against terrorism”, Lavrov said.

A PROPOSAL to allow Iran’s military have powerful new conventional weapons in a nuclear deal is proving a stumbling block with Washington.

Iran’s deputy foreign minister Abbas Araqchi said Tehran’s demand for an end to a United Nations arms embargo was among the most contentious unresolved points. “Opponents of the deal will say Iran has a free hand to develop anything it wants”.

“Our hope is that they will choose to do that”, Earnest said. “Since then, we have seeing changes in a lot of issues, from sanctions to the period of agreement to nuclear issues”. Moscow and Tehran are interested in finishing a deal on the sale to Iran of Russian anti-aircraft missiles.

The United States has also said that it is taking the necessary technical steps to extend the Joint Plan of Action until Monday.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif also drew attention to Iran’s role in that battle in an op-ed in the Financial Times on Thursday, arguing that a nuclear accord would create a stronger front against such extremism.
