The PlayStation 4’s main rival is the Microsoft Xbox One, launched around the same time at the end of 2013.

Sony’s latest 30.2 million update, released Wednesday, marks a sizable increase from the 20.2 million units it had sold as of March 1.

Sony says 30.2 million PS4 owners are spending time playing games and enjoying entertainment content thanks to the availability of superior content and services.

Sony’s PS4 console was known to be the market leader but was recently beaten in terms of sales in the U.S. by Microsoft’s Xbox One in the month of October. The company no longer releases official sales figures but a chart from VGChartz.com suggests 15.6 million units have been shipped, just over half as many as the PS4. Last month, Microsoft announced that they would not be using console sales as the primary metric for success, instead focusing on engagement and Xbox Live usership. And Sony also plans to launch its first virtual reality headset for the PS4 next year as well, which should excite the company’s fan base.

Gamers who own a Sony console can also get titles like Street Fighter V, The Last Guardian, Horizon: Zero Dawn and possibly the new Gran Turismo.

This is the lowest price you will find on a Sony PS4 this Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

And in July this year, Sony raised its full-year operating income forecast for its game and network services division to ¥60 billion (S$706 million) in July, from a previous ¥40 billion, due to solid PlayStation demand.

Speaking during the UBS Global Technology Conference, Jorgensen commented: “Clearly, consoles have sold faster than everyone expected”.
