Liverpool: Injury boost for Klopp

Nobody would have thought that Liverpool will draw its away fixture against Manchester City let alone think of winning the match, but the Reds was on top of its game dominating the Champions and beating it comprehensively 4-1, despite missing out on quite a few players due to injuries.

Klopp has been credited with installing a new attitude at Anfield, but until now results had not reflected that. In the first thirty minutes today, that very notion was blown down the roads in Manchester as if Storm Barney had still been rattling round the place. Lawrenson believes the Liverpool captain’s return will be a massive boost for Klopp. Klopp’s personality has contributed to Liverpool looking more energetic now, as seen from the win at the Etihad Stadium, where they took City apart.

Pellegrini made a major miscalculation in 2013 when he admitted that he didn’t realise that another goal in City’s 3-2 victory at Bayern would have taken his team through as group winners. “When we have time, all the players are around the world with the national teams”. “But I tell you what, the way Liverpool press, you’re going to have to play really well to get through them”.

And he is right. “He has big energy and it rubs off. He wants us to enjoy the game, have fun, but also give it all our respect”. It is hard to understand.

Coutinho, who played a starring role for Liverpool as they annihilated Manchester City at the Etihad on Saturday, will discover his injury fate on Tuesday with Liverpool getting a second opinion after medical assessments at Melwood, as claimed in the report.

At Anfield, though, the team have lost and drawn their last two Premier League games.

Klopp left Christian Benteke and Daniel Sturridge on the bench against Man City – the two players who are supposed to be his star strikers – but it didn’t matter.

But Liverpool weren’t finished and a Martin Skrtel screamer made it 4-1 nine minutes from time.

“It is remarkable how quickly the Reds have embraced the German’s methods”. “The game was not flawless but it was very good. We couldn’t be sure that we would start with the biggest confidence after what happened against Palace but now have more and more confidence in the squad”, he said with his trademark smile before reminding his charges that there were opportunities that went begging.

But Klopp, who replaced Brendan Rodgers as coach at the start of October, knows that his side have to start replicating the form they showed against City on a regular basis. “It’s only OK if you ask this if you ask it as well after we lose”.
