Read on with our recap of the episode. “You will never be one of us”.

How crazy/awesome were they? This is not a version of Lucious that we’ve seen before, and I don’t mind making the guy a doting grandfather, but I do mind how sloppily this show spackles its holes. Lucious is either growing softer in his old age or he’s up to something, because he up and bought Andre and Rhonda a six-bedroom mansion and even told Andre that he was proud of him. Now as I recall, Cookie and Laz have had a lot of sex.

Five minutes later, he told Dre to go ahead and sell off the properties. So selling it off now would be like going bankrupt. “Meanwhile, Laz (guest star Adam Rodriguez) has truly fallen for Cookie, but things get complicated when she finds out the truth about him”. He’s none too happy about the news and takes it as well as a passive-agressive teenager would.

“Lucious makes a reckless play for the streaming service that he believes will make him the most powerful man in music, only to learn that the entire business strategy was part of a scheme that might jeopardize everything for which he has worked so hard”.

Speaking of Empire artists, Jamal and Skye are workshopping new material.

“I really do feel like that was the deal”, he said.

Most Tweetable Quote: “What’s up with this “legendary” stuff?” Lucious, I’m a single mother to my dog, Max.

Dre suggests to Lucious to offer his music as collateral for the deal with Swiftstream, but since Cookie owns half the rights, they can’t do it and she has no desire to sign away her rights as she knows the deal is bad. I know I wouldn’t accept it. Would you take Laz back if you were Cookie? Pretty equally both actually. Cookie approaches Laz from behind, pulls a gun from his waist, and pulls down the collar of his shirt to reveal the bull tattoo.

What the heck happened with her this week?

In the next episode titled “Sinned Against”, more drama will develop between Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) and her homecoming sister Candace (Vivica C. Fox), while they deal with their youngest sister, Carol. Pepper is now living in the suburbs and has a successful bakery, but she always has time to help out a dear friend and she still has the resources to find Carol without really breaking a sweat. Now that Cookie has to worry about her cookout event, she’s not anxious about finding her sister Carol; especially if she’s going to have to search high and low.

Hakeem later invited Anika over to confront her and things did not go well.

When she returns home, there’s more trouble for everyone’s favorite Lyon. It remains unclear why working her way back into the Lyon fold is important to Anika to begin with, but Rhonda mentioned Lucious’ excitement over their new baby, so why is Anika trying to reinvent the wheel? Alliances in the Lyon family are constantly shifting, so the question of who’s going to be sinning against whom is up in the air. She’s envious of the way he’s shaped his own career and identity, saying her fans would turn their backs if they knew the real her. But Jamal, superfan that he is, has seen who she is (via a demo that her label wouldn’t let her release, duh) and is sure her girl power fans would love her just as much singing about the things that really matter to her.
