Louis van Gaal confirms Manchester United interest in Cristiano Ronaldo

By contrast, Cristiano Ronaldo’s contribution to Real Madrid can’t be questioned, at least until recent weeks.

Manchester United are also planning a £25m bid for West Brom striker Saido Berahino.

However, speculation persists that the 30-year-old is set to leave Madrid.

Real Madrid’s best player has been less than his usual spectacular self this season. It seems now that Florentino Perez has backed the manager.

The Red Devils look to be in the title running this season, but are still short in one or two areas, which Van Gaal himself has admitted.

However, ahead of United’s Champions League clash against PSV Eindhoven, Van Gaal has denied his interest in Robben, stating that it is a fabrication from the media just like the club’s supposed link with Cristiano Ronaldo.

In his new film Ronaldo, which he has been promoting during the worldwide break and which premiered in London this week, he admits to being a loner.

Five of Ronaldo’s goals came in one game at Espanyol.

“They do what Louis van Gaal likes, and what he likes is a disciplined set-up that attacks when possible, but goes sideways a lot, that waits for its opportunities, and then gets at you”.

Is £60 million a bargain for such talent? That’s an awfully large amount of money for a player on the slope but realistically he’s the best readily available option. “The doctors won’t take any risks with him, which is good”. “He is a fantastic talent, but Wilson is a player who already has more experience in the Premier League”.

“I feel like that’s my position. But these players are mostly ungettable”, the Dutchman was quoted as saying by several British newspapers yesterday.

The same would be true of Ronaldo’s addition, but the Real superstar may now be out of reach for United. Possibly. But I think he would try to make Ronaldo fit into his system, rather than the other way around.

Joining at 31 years old, the pressure would be the same but his experience would see him deal with it differently.
