At this time, the Waushara County Sheriff’s Office and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Conservation Wardens are investigating this case. No additional information will be released until the sheriff’s department and DNR finish their investigations.
Waushara County 911 Dispatch Center received two calls around 4:21pm Monday of a hunter shot.

The incident happened Monday on private property, owned by the victim, just off 24th Road south of Brown Deer Avenue, in the Town of Mt. Morris. Authorities responded and Welk was taken to a hospital, where he died. Welk was wearing orange clothing, and there was a report of two people who got into a dark colored pickup and left the area of DNR Public Land. They’re also searching for the casing. “There was an entry wound and exit wound, so we believe the round could be out at the scene”. Investigators believe the stray bullet was sacked from neighboring state-owned land. He says there was at least one vehicle in that area.
