Kiev would also ban Russian airlines from using Ukrainian airspace for any transit flights, Yatseniuk told a government meeting. Alexandru Visinescu, 90, on Wednesday appeared in court to appeal his July conviction for the death of 12 prisoners due to mistreatment under his command at the Ramnicu Sarat lockup from 1956 to 1963, where Romania’s elite were incarcerated.
Ukraine’s Interior Minister Arsen Avakov had earlier called on the country’s national security council to annul contracts for power supply to Crimea in response to Russian threats of a ban on Ukrainian food imports from January 1, which has now been signed into law, RIA Novosti wrote Monday.
Yatsenyuk claimed Ukraine could buy cheaper gas from Europe and had reduced consumption by 20 percent.

Ukraine utility Ukrenergo says it has repaired one of the four damaged power lines in the Kherson region that supplies electricity to Crimea.

Such cuts are unlikely this time as Ukraine reduced its dependence on Russian gas and Gazprom decreased its reliance on transit through its neighbor, according to analysts.
