Manager Kevin Cash said the Rays’ rotation did well in his absence, but the team is glad to have him back.
One call that went the Rays’ way in the second led to three runs and a late-game ejection.
“What he provides every fifth day, the length and the opportunity for us to go out and win the game, is going to be nice to have back”, Cash said. Plate umpire Greg Gibson, though, called it a ball. Rene Rivera drove in two with a single, and Brandon Guyer drove in the third with another.
“Everybody in the ballpark thought it was a strike”, Keuchel said. I like the Astros to get on the board with a W. This will be Moore’s second career game against the Astros.
Tampa Bay Rays trainer Ron Porterfield, left, and manager Kevin Cash, right, attend to Asdrubal Cabr … He appeared to take a step toward the dugout before the pitch was called a ball.
“I was focused on my next start – I didn’t really let it sink in”, Archer said. The Astros have scored two runs in their last three games and three or less runs in five straight games. He would be the first Astros pitcher to have 12 victories prior to the All-Star break since Roy Oswalt (12-7) in 2005. The Angels were scheduled to play Seattle on Saturday night. He allowed only two hits in his 5 ½ innings and struck out five in a 3-0 victory over the Houston Astros.
It was enough for the Rays to beat Dallas Keuchel, who was trying to be the first 12-game winning in the American League. It was his 30th consecutive start of six or more innings, which is the majors’ longest active streak. Cabrera also said his hamstring is feeling better. Elmore moved in from left field to replace Cabrera at shortstop.
The Astros mounted a few threats, including a bases loaded situation in the fourth that Jake Odorizzi was able to work out of, and a two-out, two in scoring position scenario in the seventh that Jake McGee got the unsafe Jose Altuve to fly out to end.
The Astros had just five hits in a series-opening 3-1 loss Friday night.
The 26-year-old, who is 29-17 in his career, allowed four runs in each outing and 15 hits over a total of nine innings against Cleveland and Kansas City.
“That was the ballgame right there”, Keuchel said.
MEDICAL MATTERS: OF Steven Souza Jr. had the stitches removed from his lacerated right pinky Friday and had a positive visit with a hand specialist.

The Rays dedicated a right-field seat at Tropicana Field during a pregame ceremony that will always remain open in remembrance of prisoners of war and those missing in action.
