The month-long winter session is scheduled to start on 26 November and will continue till 23 December.
Modi said that Parliament should run constructively and fulfill the expectations of the people.
Ministers of Home, Finance, External Affairs, Defence and Parliamentary Affairs, Rajnath Singh, Arun Jaitley, Sushma Swaraj, Manohar Parrikar and M Venkaiah Naidu respectively, met to give final touches to their strategy. “But we will look to take forward the main objective of the GST bill”, said Naidu.
The government has urged the opposition parties not to go by political considerations on the GST Bill which has not yet been passed by Rajya Sabha where it lacks a majority.
“Our position on the GST is simple”. Asked about Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s statement that the PM had not spoken to Sonia Gandhi on the GST bill, Jaitley told Times Now, “Let me clarify we have absolutely no hesitation even at the level of the prime minister”.
“We are not trying to stall parliament to stall parliament”.
“Unless the government responds on this we will not compromise”, they said.
“…one man can’t have all the answers…”, he said, adding dialogue was very important. “Microphones of our MPs (Members or Parliament) are switched off in the House”. The BJP had spent years preventing a Congress-led government from passing the Bill, only to see the Congress do the same to it in the last two Parliamentary sessions. “Consensus can be built through discussion…numbers are with the GST bill, most parties support it”, Mr Jaitley told NDTV. The AIADMK has problems with the bill, and the Prime Minister and the Finance Minister have tried to reach out to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayaliathaa.
During the monsoon session of the parliament-the previously concluded session-the productivity level at the Rajya Sabha was a pitiable 9%, according to PRS Legislative Research, which tracks the functioning of the Indian parliament.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi who attended all party meeting said that GST legislation is in the interest of the nation. “These three objections did not dawn on them when P Chidambaram, as his successor, had accepted the recommendations of the standing committee where even Congress members unanimously agreed to those recommendations”, he said.
“The session can not be restricted to one bill of the government”.

“The opposition will be cooperating with the government but it is for the government to accommodate the viewpoints of the opposition”, he said. Leader of Congress in Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge said, “We have already given notice for discussion on intolerance and it should be admitted under Rule 193”.
