Obama ‘pardons’ turkey in Thanksgiving tradition

Two days ago a PPP poll found that Republicans opposed President Obama’s pardoning of two turkeys by a margin of 27%-11%. “Spending time with family and friends, and celebrating our blessings”, Obama said.

It’s been nearly seven decades since the lobbying arm of the big turkey industry made a decision to pump propaganda into the sacred American celebration known as Thanksgiving.

“The main man pardoning a turkey this year should be Emperor Putin”, he wrote.

With daughters Malia and Sasha at his side, Obama declared that “Abe is now a free bird” and will now be designated “TOTUS – the Turkey of the United States”.

“That was good, that was good”, Sasha then responded after her father’s joke, to which President Obama replied, “I thought it was good”.

President George H.W. Bush reportedly is celebrated, however, for making it an annual tradition back in 1989, and every president since has continued it.

In a terse statement, the White House said Mr Obama had signed the National Defence Authorisation Act for Fiscal Year 2016, along with several other pieces of legislation. “If for some reason Abe can’t fulfill his duties to walk around and gobble all day, Honest (the other turkey) is in an undisclosed location ready to serve in the TOTUS line of succession”.

“I confess that Honest looks like good eating but this is a democracy”.

In a speech following a security briefing, Barack Obama advised Americans to go about their business as usual ahead of the Thanksgiving holidays which start tomorrow.

The two turkeys chosen for this year’s presidential pardon owe their unique names to a gaggle of Pleasanton students.

This year, the lucky bird spared was Abe, an 18-week-old, 40-pound gobbler raised in California.

Along with transfers to foreign countries, moving the most unsafe prisoners to a specialized facility in the United States is at the heart of the White House strategy to close Guantanamo. He also rolled out an array of his signature dad jokes, such as, “Time flies, even if turkeys don’t”.

After the ceremony, the Obama family planned to serve a meal to homeless veterans in Washington, D.C.
