John Smedley, ex- Sony Online Entertainment CEO and current Daybreak CEO has publicly expressed outrage over the Finnish court sentence that relieves the hacker of any jail time.
27-year-old Julius “Zeekill” Kivimakihas is only getting a two year suspended sentence from the Finnish court, after pleading guilty to 50,070(!) charges that include data breaches, felony payment fraud, telecommunication harassments, and more.
The crimes – committed from late 2012 until September 2013 – included hijacking emails and diverting computer traffic from the Massachussetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the United States to a Harvard University website, the Hufvudstadsbladet daily reported. However, Kivimaki wasn’t charged for those hacks.
So you guys can debate this.. and that’s all well and good, but meanwhile this shit is real to my life and my family’s life and I’m sure as hell not lying down for it for a second.
“It is not necessarily the place of the courts to factor in deterrence in their sentences”. Smedley also entertained the idea of taking Kivimaki’s parents to Civil Court, on the grounds that Kivimaki is a minor, and therefore can’t sue him directly.
The prosecutors originally accused the teenage hacker of adding malware to roughly 1,400 servers. Thanks to the actions by Lizard Squad, whenever PSN or Xbox Live go down, like PSN was down for a few hours over 4th of July weekend, it’s hard not to wonder if the downtime is due to simple technical difficulties, or yet another malicious DDoS attack.
Lizard Squad has claimed responsibility for yet another attack on the world of gaming, as the successful DDoS of both Planetside 2 and H1Z1 last night were initiated by the group.

As for other members of the Lizard Squad, it remains to be seen how things and investigations will pan out.
