Pilot: Turkey did not issue warning before downing Russian warplane

A Wikileaks revelation indicated that the Russian jet, violated the Turkish airspace for only 17 seconds.

In Georgia, customs officials reported that trucks with Turkish number plates driving via Georgia to Russian Federation can not get through. “I think this is the essence”, CNN quoted him as saying.

“The killing of a Russian pilot by terrorist groups backed by Turkey is clearly a war crime”, said Muallem during a press release with his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov.

Russia did not deploy its air defense means in Syria because it did not expect Turkey to attack, Russian President Vladimir Putin told journalists after talks with French President Francois Hollande on Thursday.

On Wednesday, the Turkish military also put out a statement saying it had been in touch with Russian military attaches to explain the rules of engagement that led to the incident and that it tried to rescue the pilots.

Russia is advising all Russians now living in or visiting Turkey to return home, and has advised against any travel to Turkey.

On Tuesday, Turkey downed a Russian warplane on the Syrian border after reports that it violated Turkish airspace.

Turkey said it was ready for “all kinds of co-operation” with Moscow over the incident.

One of the Russian pilots was killed by militants in Syria after ejecting from the plane, while his crewmate was rescued by Syrian army commandos.

The S-400s are based in Syria’s coastal province of Latakia, just 50 kilometres (30 miles) away from the border with Turkey and are capable of striking targets within a 400-kilometre (250-mile) range with deadly precision.

The incident has prompted calls in the worldwide community for Russian Federation and Turkey to resolve the issue through peaceful negotiations and prevent further escalations.

The Turkish government insisted it warned the pilots to change course before firing, but the surviving pilot said he received no warning before the plane was shot down.

The Prime Minister added his country had no intention to create conflicts with Russia, calling Russia Turkey’s “friend and neighbor”.
