Adult mosquitoes collected in Mountain View’s 94043 zip code have tested positive for the virus, according to the Santa Clara County Vector Control District.

England battles Erie County’s mosquito problems by directing the spraying of VectoLex, an insecticide that kills mosquito larvae, into standing pools of water.
The state also reported this week that it has its first case of the virus this year.
“The confirmation of West Nile virus in mosquito samples or birds indicates the presence of West Nile virus in the area”, said Dr. James L. Tomarken, Suffolk County health services commissioner.
No human cases of West Nile have been reported as yet.
We don’t have West Nile virus this summer in Ohio – yet.
Mosquitoes are infected with West Nile virus (WNV) by feeding on infected birds, which can then be transferred to humans and other animals.
They also told that stagnant water should not be allowed in pool covers, birdbaths, containers and flower pots etc.
“I think people should continue to enjoy the outdoors and go camping, but just have those resources when they do it”, Anthony said.
Less than 1 percent of infected people develop a serious neurologic illness, such as encephalitis or meningitis, an inflammation of the brain or surrounding tissues. Floodwater species such as aedes vexans can become extremely abundant under such conditions.
Highland Park will spray Friday, Saturday and Sunday, July 10-12 between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.
Install or fix screens on windows and doors to keep mosquitoes outside. The districts continue to be concerned with neglected swimming pools.

This week Washington confirmed that state’s first case of the virus, a woman in the Tri Cities area. Birds of particular interest are crows, ravens, magpies, jays and raptors (hawk or eagle).
