Brock Osweiler named AFC Offensive Player Of The Week

Three days later, he was selected as the AFC Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts, an award he didn’t expect.

The Broncos first played the Patriots in the inaugural game of the American Football League on September 9, 1960, when Denver defeated the then-Boston Patriots 13-10 at Boston University’s Nickerson Field. Instead, it will be Brock Osweiler making his second career start.

The Denver Broncos will have Brock Osweiler starting against the New England Patriots in Week 12 and he could continue starting for the team after that, as Peyton Manning may miss at least two games while his foot is in a walking cast. “I said this yesterday, there are still some steps for him to take to get back out there, but I think we have taken some positive steps this week”.

The Broncos next two games are against the Patriots at home followed by a trip to San Diego to play the Chargers.

The Denver Broncos (8-2) and New England Patriots (10-0) are focused on protecting their quarterbacks from dominant defenses in their Sunday night showdown so they don’t join so many other National Football League signal-callers on the sideline, including Peyton Manning.

With Manning out, the Broncos will rely on Osweiler to spearhead their offense as they aim to advance to the play-offs. Mathis did play two games earlier this season despite not practicing because of a strained hamstring. For one, Osweiler has a stronger (although not necessarily more accurate) arm than Manning, which will be increasingly important as the weather cools in the last quarter of the season and playoffs.

Coach Gary Kubiak has high hopes for Manning’s speedy recover, though.

NFL Network’s Albert Breer, former Patriots beat writer, reflected on the first Brady versus Manning match-up from 2001, which was Brady’s first NFL start.

According to NFL Networks Ian Rapoport, look for Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning to be out “at least” 3 weeks, and the target return date for Manning’s return in week 15 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Other players on the team have a different idea on how to guard Gronk. “Their defensive gets after receivers”.

Patriots CB Malcolm Butler vs. Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas: Butler is a bona fide No. 1 cornerback but the size-speed edge goes to Thomas. Harris has not allowed a sack since Week 4 and has helped stabilize the pass-protection scheme in the wake of Ty Sambrailo’s season-ending labrum injury.

With the Patriots also dealing with some injuries, the Broncos know they will be ready no matter who subs in for the injured players. Although there are still six games left, they have a shot, plus having a running back like Blount and a tight end like Gronkowski to depend on is a bonus.
