Arsene Wenger insists Arsenal will only add quality in January

With increasingly impressive training facilities being built in England to improve performance from a young age up until first-team football, questions have been asked as to whether players are being “pampered”, rather than just being able to play the game.

“What we need is good players… we are in a position where we want to do something (in January)”. Wenger has compared the in-form Chilean to a lion because of his explosive and committed style of play despite getting frequently knocked down by the opposition players on the pitch.

The injury list means Wenger will continue to play Alexis Sanchez despite his recent exertions for both club and country.

The Gunners recorded a comfortable 3-0 victory at home to Dinamo Zagreb on Tuesday night meaning they now head to face Olympiacos in Athens in a fortnight with progression to the knock-out rounds in their own hands. “I think I can but now it is my job to prove it. Fitness is hard to maintain”, he added. “I’m sure they can go through. They are a higher quality team than Olympiacos and my opinion is that they will go through”. “It is, of course, a disappointment to lose him in the longer term but we have players who can compensate”. And you should also not forget that we’ve got a super team, and get along really well.

“Spontaneously it might not be the best moment to rest Alexis but I don’t know”.

“What is a bargain for us is to buy players of top quality, because only top quality strengthens our squad”.

“I love a bargain”, he told reporters. “If I find the right quality I will do something in January”.

The Ox’s directness causes so many problems for his opponents, not only because he puts them on the back foot, but because he runs at them with his ferocious pace and strength, making him more than a handful for most players.

“It gives us a chance but how big the chance is I don’t know”, said Arsene Wenger, whose side are on six points, three behind the Greeks.
