Being a huge fan, I understood the reasoning, but JK Rowling is here to save the day, as she replied the question on Twitter. He was introduced as a bully among the Hogwarts staff, tormenting Harry and his friends.

The question of Snape has dogged readers in part because he returned to side of the villain, Lord Voldemort, and killed Harry’s hero, headmaster Albus Dumbledore, in one of the later books in the series, “The Half Blood Prince”.

British author J.K. Rowling took to Twitter this morning to defend her controversial decision to have Harry Potter name his son after the widely reviled character of Severus Snape. According to Rowling, Harry did it to honor Snape’s love for his mother and to show forgiveness for how Snape treated him.

However, Rowling disputed the idea that Snape truly disliked the wizard and she proved her point by saying Snape sacrificed himself for the sake of Harry’s family. You can’t make him a saint: he was vindictive & bullying. “Never change x”, she tweeted.

The author, who now writes crime fiction under the pen name Robert Galbraith, held no animosity towards fans who challenged the child’s name.

“I’ve got to say this: you lot have been arguing about Snape for years”. My timeline just exploded with love & fury yet again. Harry and Ginny’s son, Albus Severus, is anxious about being sorted into Slytherin.
