Rex Ryan: Get Sammy Watkins More Involved

And another one. And another one.

In college, the call would have been correct, because Watkins fell backwards out of bounds.

It was far from their most impressive win of the year, but the Patriots did what they had to do to get to 10-0. Headed into next week, the Pats will be challenged though as they face one of their toughest foes yet, according to USA Today.

11/14/2011: Tom Brady completed 26 of 39 for 329 yards and three touchdowns in the Patriots’ 37-16 win over the Jets.

In the end, the Patriots won the game.

“It’s a new system that he’s putting in, and every week they’ve gotten better”, said Chiefs coach Andy Reid of his buddy, Rex. A 38-year-old quarterback isn’t supposed to look graceful as he’s repeatedly slammed to ground by angry steroid-fueled linebackers who train every day for the sole goal of making Tom Brady eat dirt. “Hiccup? Yell, “€Down in front!”€ to Rex Ryan and forget the thing was in his mouth? For comparison, eight other Patriots receivers had 160 yards combined. The Patriots now have two healthy wide receivers: Brandon LaFell and undrafted rookie Chris Harper who was just promoted from the practice squad. The defensive line has been incredible against the run, even with Jamie Collins sidelined with a serious illness the past three games (he is expected to return this week), and now allow the second fewest rushing yards per game in the league.

“I get it, that is what everybody assumed”, Ryan said when asked about his blitz-happy nature. With the 20-13 win over Buffalo comes an unavoidable truth: This is a Patriots team that must win games in the 20s going forward.

WHite finished the game with two rushes for 14 yards and two catches for 32 yards, but two of those four touches turned into touchdowns, the only two touchdowns for the Patriots on the day in a 20-13 victory. The young QB could be seen nursing his right shoulder in the fourth quarter as he tried to orchestrate a comeback that fell short when wide receiver Sammy Watkins caught a pass near midfield, rolled out of bounds, yet was ruled inbound with the clock ticking down to zero.

An additional example: Nigel Bradham slipped through the A gap untouched on a play during the third quarter.

Lining up under center, Brady began barking out an unusual signal: “Rex Ryan!” As for everyone saying it prevented a touchdown, Amendola was still 45 yards from the end zone. “So, that’s a mistake and we shouldn’t have blown the whistle”. The Bills would form a wall of defenders about 8 yards off the ball, content to give Amendola a 4-yard pass underneath but then swarm to the ball.

Ryan was also penalized 15 yards for unsportsmanlike conduct for interfering with officials because he was ruled to be standing too close to the playing field. Not a bad parlay, but not the six points they could have gotten. “I doubt it”, Ryan said. First the refs blew the whistle.

With the ESPN crew in for Monday Night Football, Patriots fans, of course, couldn’t resist some signs mocking and sports radio jeering for what they have perceived as unfair coverage during Deflategate.

The drive ended with an even more unusual error: Gostkowski’s first miss in 51 weeks.

“That’s one of the craziest I’ve ever seen”, said Bills running back LeSean McCoy, who ran 20 times for 82 yards and a 27-yard touchdown.

But the team can’t continue to let Brady take the punishment he took on Monday night, when he was sacked just once but popped 10 times and forced to continually fire passes into the turf to escape serious harm.
