Vladimir Putin, Fracois Hollande to fight against terrorism in Syria

Economy minister Alexei Ulyukayev said Moscow could put limits on flights to and from Turkey, halt preparations for a joint free trade zone, and restrict high-profile projects including the TurkStream gas pipeline and a $20bn nuclear power plant Russian Federation is building in Turkey.

The Turkish President dismissed allegations of Isis oil sales as “slander” and hit back by claiming there was evidence Russian companies and the terror group are selling oil to Bashar al-Assad’s Syrian regime – an ally of Mr Putin but enemy of Turkey.

“The focus should be to tackle, head-on, the worldwide threat that Daesh poses, securing the future of Syria and seeking a solution to the current refugee crisis”, he said.

He stressed the missiles will not target Russia’s partners, “with whom we fight terrorists in Syria together”.

“Turkey did not deliberately [shoot] down the Russian warplane”, he said.

Tensions between Moscow and Ankara heightened after Turkish F-16s shot down a Russian jet on Tuesday, triggering a deterioration in relations between the two countries over the conflict in Syria.

Speaking to his supporters in northeast Turkey, Erdogan said he “would like to meet [Putin] face to face in Paris”, during the upcoming climate meet. At the same time, Russia’s consumer oversight agency has seized more than 1,500 pounds of “high-risk” Turkish meats, sweets and nuts.

Mr Lavrov told reporters that Mr Hollande has suggested “concrete steps” in order to shut the Turkish-Syrian border, which he said should “solve the problem of terrorism on Syrian territory”. Russia has intensified its airstrikes against the Islamic State group after ISIS claimed responsibility for shooting down a Russian passenger jet over Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula last month, killing 224 people.

“The plane was shot down within the rules of engagement announced earlier”, he added. “He committed to not bombing them once we’ve provided that”, Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said on RTL after accompanying Hollande to Moscow.

“You must know that we are not as dishonorable as to buy oil from a terrorist organization”, the Turkish president said.
