Chris Culliver placed on injured reserve, Bashaud Breeland questionable

Washington coach Jay Gruden wouldn’t go into any specifics regarding Culliver’s injury after practice.

The 27-year-old has made six starts for Washington this season, tallying 16 tackles and a pass deflection.

“He’s a good player for us, obviously”.

“He hurt his knee a little bit out there”, Gruden told reporters. “He went up for a ball and landed on it and tore it. These other guys have to step up”.

Friday’s news puts a finale on an injury-plagued season for Culliver, who had already missed three games this season after dealing with pain and weakness in his left knee. Now it will be up to the likes of Hall and Bashaud Breeland along with newcomers Will Blackmon and rookie Kyshoen Jarrett to make up for the loss of a former Pro Bowler. DeAngelo Hall has been playing safety of late, but could also play some corner if the team decides to shift course in the wake of Culliver’s injury. Outside linebacker Junior Galette, offensive guard Shawn Lauvao, center Kory Lichtensteiger and tight end Niles Paul are the four other Redskins starters to suffer season-ending injuries. Now that Culliver will be placed on injured reserve, Gruden said he’s putting the final touches on how he’ll situate the secondary against the Giants. Breeland missed Friday’s practice due to illness and was listed as questionable, but is expected to play. “We don’t have any other choice”. “You pretty much get an understanding of things, and the more you grasp, the more opportunities you get to go out there, the better you become”.
