Shop Local During Small Business Saturday
In contrast to the major discounts that are promised by the giant retailers, Small Business Saturday stands in contrast to that.

For every $25 spent in the 16354 zip code, between Small Business Saturday and Wednesday, Dec. 16, shoppers will receive an entry for a drawing for one of three $50 Chamber gift certificates. Seventy seven percent of consumers said Small Business Saturday inspires them to “shop small” throughout the year and not just for the holidays.
“We look at it this way: it’s been family-owned and operated since Gary and I started this about five years ago”.
“I think small business saturday is so big because you’re kind of giving back to your community when you shop local”, Palmore said.
“Actually we get a lot of people that do come in purposely because it is Small Business Saturday, and they want us to know that they are supporting us”.
“It’s great exposure to get those new people in the door and have them really fall in love with your store and what you’re doing”, said Gruntmeir. Vedro says small businesses are successful when they take customer feedback and apply it to help each individual shopper find exactly what they’re looking for. “By shopping small and shopping local, we’re able to support those who are supporting our workforce”, detailed Nikki Bowmar, SBA Public Affairs Specialist.
American Express also offered free signage, shipping, advertisements, and more for small businesses to use in promotion of Small Business Saturday.
“If you wanted something like everybody else, you will go to a big-box store”.
“Most of the businesses in any community, and it’s true in our community are small businesses”.
Competing with corporate big-box stores can be a challenge, especially during the holiday season, said Sammy Nasrollahi, owner of Rugs of Distinction and president of the Uptown Greenwood Development Corp.
According to the Chamber’s website, the best return in this economic climate is on investments in local business. Puff said the township is trying to reach out to small businesses to compile a list of those participating in Small Business Saturday and encourage people to visit them.
