Rajnath Singh takes a jibe at Aamir Khan in Lok Sabha

Speaking on the occasion, CM Devendra Fadnavis said, “Our Constitution is best among the all other constitutions of the world”. So, it is really the time to think upon about the issue and make few strict amendments. Singh said the Modi government was committed to the “safety and security of every Indian, irrespective of caste, creed or religion”.

“The framers of the Constitution did not include the words “secular” and “socialist” because these values were (already) part of Indian civilisation”, Rajnath said. When someone questioned a Governor for his statement that “Hindustan is for Hindus”, he said that “Muslims are free to go to either Pakistan or Bangladesh”.

These days, the topic of Rise in intolerance in country is at the peak and lots of leaders from the opposition have demanded that Modi should step ahead and talk on this topic.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday lauded Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and acknowledged his contribution in nation building.

Singh, who initiated the debate on “Commitment to India’s Constitution” in the Lok Sabha, took veiled dig at the Congress in his speech, and also targeted actor Aamir Khan over his remarks concerning intolerance.

He said there can not be enough praise for the constitution. “We have to accept their contribution”, he said, adding “we must focus on dignity of India and unity of India”.

The Constitution of India has 448 articles, 12 schedules, and 100 amendments.

Congress President Sonia Gandhi hit back at the government saying the ideals of Constitution were under attack now and it was a “joke” that those who had no role in the making of the Constitution were now discussing it and demanding a review. “We already celebrate 26 January, which was the date given to us by Ambedkar”, said Ghulam Nabi Azad, leader of the opposition in the Rajya Sabha. “This shows his vision”.

“In today’s politics, if a word has been misused the maximum, it is secular”, he claimed, adding the secular’s formal translation was not “dharam nirpeksh” (neutral of religion) but “panth nirpeksh (neutral of faith)” and that the “misuse of some words” had not allowed the country to have the level of harmony that was sought to be built. “These are values core to the Indian ethos”.

Dr Ambedkar faced discrimination and humiliation throughout his life. But he showed greatness with no feeling of revenge. The Constitution should not be limited within the houses of the Parliament.

The Shiv Sena, which has missed no chance recently to mock the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on several issues, has supported its alliance partner on dispute over the use of the term “secularism.’ It has backed Union home minister Rajnath Singh over his remarks that secularism is the ‘most misused” term.

“The sanctity of the Constitution, it is our responsibility”. The way should be of agreement.

He said that democracy becomes stronger through consensus and agreement; while the concept of majority and minority is always the last resort. He astutely made the Opposition speechless by saying that the country has moved forward with the help of previous governments.

He also referred to the work of Ambedkar in fixing working hours for labourers.
