Mississippi Waffle House employee shot to death over a cigarette

A Mississippi Waffle House employee was fatally shot in the head just hours after Thanksgiving day when she told a customer to put out his cigarette.

Biloxi police Sgt. Donnie Dobbs said the customer, Johnny Max Mount, 45, is accused of fatally shooting her around 1 a.m. Friday after he fired up a cigarette inside the business.

Officials did not immediately release the name of the 52-year-old victim, but Waffle House referred to her as Julie in a press release.

He was charged with first degree murder and is now being held on a $2 million bond at the Harrison County Jail, according to the Southwest Times Record. The unidentified employee died on the way to a hospital.

The restaurant was closed after the shooting, but has since reopened. 90, near the Coast Coliseum.

Mount surrendered to police as soon as they arrived at the restaurant. Authorities allege he shot at the girl, who hasn’t yet been identified, once in the head Friday morning.

“This senseless tragedy is a shock for the Waffle House family”.

In 2013, a gun went off in a Biloxi Waffle House and shattered a window in the restaurant. Our associate was a friend to many as well as a valued member of the Waffle House team for eight years as a salesperson.
